FAQ

How do I use it?

Apply it as the last step of your skincare, before any makeup. It also works as a primer, so you can skip that step.

Use about a nickel-sized amount for your face, plus a little more for your neck. Most people use less than they need, and that lowers the protection you actually get.

Reapply at least every 2 hours, and right away after sweating, swimming or towel drying.

It washes off easily with any regular cleanser.

Is it tinted?

It's not a tint in the traditional way. It doesn't add any color to your skin and blends out on ALL skin tones, so there's no shade to choose.

Most mineral sunscreens use a white base, which is what leaves that grey or purple cast. We made ours with a soft "banana" colored base instead, which fully cuts any possibility of a white cast.

It also isn't makeup. There's only a tiny amount of pigment, far less than any foundation or concealer, so it's fine to wear while you're active and sweating. Just know it isn't water or sweat-resistant, so reapply often when you're outside moving.

How long does one tube last?

Most of our customers go through a tube in about 3 months with daily use. And since it doubles as a primer, it replaces two products in your routine instead of adding one.

If it's become a staple for you, our multipacks bring the price down to about $26 a tube for 3, or $24 a tube for 6.

Our current batch expires in May 2028, so stocking up is no problem.

Why SPF 30, and why only zinc?

It's broad-spectrum SPF 30, made with 10% non-nano zinc oxide. Zinc is one of the few UV filters that protects against both UVA and UVB on its own, including the long UVA rays linked to premature aging. It actually covers long UVA better than titanium dioxide, which is strongest against UVB. The formula has been tested to meet FDA requirements for broad-spectrum protection.

SPF 30 blocks about 97% of UVB rays, and SPF 50 blocks about 98%. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends SPF 30 or higher for daily wear.

And here's my honest answer on why we stopped at 30... a higher SPF in a mineral formula means a lot more zinc, which makes it thicker, heavier and whiter on the skin. We wanted a sunscreen you'd actually want to put on every morning. Wearing enough of it and reapplying matters more than the number on the tube.

Is it okay for sensitive skin?

We made it for sensitive skin first. It's 100% mineral, with no chemical filters and no fragrance. It also has aloe, chamomile, pomegranate and vitamin E to help calm redness. Many of our reviewers with rosacea, eczema-prone skin and sensitive eyes say it doesn't sting or flare them.

It doesn't contain heavy pore-clogging oils like coconut oil, and many acne-prone customers tell us it doesn't break them out. We're currently in clinical testing for a non-comedogenic claim, and we'll update this as soon as results are in. If you're very breakout-prone, a quick patch test on your jawline is always a good idea.

What's in it (and what isn't)?

The formula is fragrance-free, alcohol-free, gluten-free, soy-free, vegan, cruelty-free and EU compliant. (Cetearyl alcohol is a gentle fatty alcohol, not the drying kind.)

A note on dimethicone: this was a very intentional choice as it helps the zinc spread evenly, so there's no patchiness, drag or white cast. It's also what gives the formula its smooth, non-greasy feel. We tested a number of silicone-free alternatives, like squalane, jojoba esters and coconut alkanes. They left the formula too oily, too shiny, or unstable.

We use a high-purity, linear dimethicone. That's different from the cyclic silicones (D4 and D5) that have raised concerns. It sits on the surface of the skin, is non-sensitizing and generally non-comedogenic, and meets safety standards in the US, EU and Canada. If a silicone-free option ever performs as well, we're open to switching.

A note on phenoxyethanol: It is our preservative, and we use less than 1%. Any formula with water in it needs a preservative to keep bacteria and mold from growing. A sunscreen gets opened every day and tossed into beach bags and hot cars, so this matters even more. Phenoxyethanol is one of the most widely used and well-studied preservatives in skincare. The EU's scientific safety committee reviewed it and found it safe at up to 1%. It also lets us avoid parabens and formaldehyde-releasing preservatives.
